Chapter 16 Lab #3: Mapping a Network Drive

For this lab I set up a remote network shared drive on my laptop. I was then able to save files from my mac onto the shared drive on the laptop.

For this example I simply created a new folder on my C: drive called Shared Folder. I right clicked on the folder and selected Sharing and Security.

Once selected, I checked the boxes for "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files."

I created a word document on the laptop where the shared drive was hosted. I named the document "This is my shared File"

I was immediately able to see the file from my iMac.

I then created a Pages file (Mac only word processor) and saved the file to the networked drive. The picture below shows the file as shown both on the Mac and on the host laptop.

Conclusion

This is a great way to have a central location to save files which need to be accessed by multiple users on a network.
